The Tutankhamun Immersive Experience, having recently opened at ExCel London, is an opportunity to uncover the secrets of ancient Egypt, one of the most fascinating eras in human history. The experience includes a high-quality 8m-high video mapping, a 360-degree VR journey, and interactive Metaverse, a selection of authentic artefacts from Cairo, and a world-first hologram unveiling the secrets of Tutankhamun’s mummification.

Brief

Clients, FKP Scorpio and Magpie Event Solutions, were looking for a range of durable, high-quality, and secure lockers that would house visitors’ personal belongings while visiting the Tutankhamun Immersive Experience.

For security purposes, any items larger than an A4 piece of paper, must be stored in a secure locker, only accessible by the locker owner. Each locker should be well ventilated, sturdy, as they needed to be able to withstand a high level of continuous traffic, and be large enough to store anything from large coats to bags and laptops and travel items.

It was imperative that there was enough storage for everyone visiting the event and that they were quick and easy to use.

Project

Bisley was able to provide Primary Plus lockers housing 208 doors with integrated BeSmart™ technology. Supplied in the Natural Canvas paint colour that was launched in summer 2024, the lockers give an additional supporting element to the theme of the event with their sandy hue.

Powered by BeSmart™ and its vast capabilities, visitors have the option to choose from two different rental methods – through a unique QR code displayed throughout the locker area, or via the integrated smart terminal itself. This provides the customer with dual options that may be better suited to their payment preferences.

When activated, the door pops open, allowing the user to identify their locker easily and input their personal items, before closing the door and continuing with the experience. The locker can be accessed digitally when required – allowing for ease and less hassle. When the locker has finished being used, it simply times out and can be secured by the next visitor.

Managers and event staff based at the event are also briefed and trained on how to use the locker technology prior to the event and can assist any visitor with any issue they may be experiencing, making the experience smooth and efficient.

Result

The locker installation and setup was fast and easy and completed in under 2 days including locker calibration and team training. The lockers have been in continuous use since the exhibit opened to the public at the end of March 2025, with an expected stream of people visiting the event throughout each day over a 14-week period. Due to the high number of tickets sold and circulation of people through the east London location, it was vital that patrons had a secure place to store their personal belongings, allowing them to enjoy the experience.

Bisley has been working on a collection of projects with FKP Scorpio and Magpie Event Solutions to deliver secure visitor lockers, including the Minecraft Immersive Experience which opened just a week after the Tutankhamun Immersive Experience.
